Tammy's Tantalizing Days
Tantalizing Days… what pops into your mind when you hear this expression? I would think a day of tantalizing things to do! But what does ‘to tantalize’ mean? The definition is exciting one’s senses or desires. A sort of celebration. Seriously, a tantalizing day… is definitely a celebration in my book!
Did you know that every day we have a celebration already set up called National Holidays? Yawn. I know, but what if we could tap into that yawn with something creative? National Holidays are a wealth of inspiration! Easy to look up on the web. Several sites list the actual National Holidays on a daily basis.
I discovered this little gold mine while trying to figure out what to put on my 3 social platforms. Which is taxing, to say the least. Each day I go through the list of National Holidays, believe it or not there are more than one, and I choose one to tie into the platform I am on.
For my horror novels, I like to try to figure out a scary movie to coincide with a National Holiday. Believe me, that can be tricky due to most holidays not being particularly scary! But it’s a challenge and I love it!
And now, I am here and up for the challenge of making our National Holidays tantalizing! Why would I do that? Maybe, to help give you ideas for ‘planned’ spontaneity.
Now what is she talking about? Ask yourself, how often has your partner complained that you are not spontaneous enough? But with all that we have going on in our lives, how are we to come up with an idea instantly that will catch them off guard? This is where planned spontaneity comes in. To have something in mind, in advance, to catch them off guard.
How does this work? Each month, I will give you a few National Holidays for the next month. Ideas that may inspire you to be spontaneous on that day. Some of them will be very simple, such as bringing home a cupcake because it’s National Cupcake Day. Such a simple jester met with a grateful response. A win-win for everyone!
If you miss out on the day I’m writing about, no worries. That is the beauty of National Holidays, you can use the idea for next year! And I’m pretty sure you are keeping this beautiful magazine, so it’s all good.
Here are a couple of ideas for the month coming up…
November 4th - National Men Make Dinner - I guarantee most are not even aware of this holiday! So, what better way to surprise your partner than making dinner!
The smell of a dinner, especially cooked by someone else, can be one of the most tantalizing things out there! The key here is “aroma”. Your meal does not need to be elaborate, it just has to smell good! It can be as simple as a spaghetti dinner.
Boil that water, pop open that jar, let the sauce simmer on the stove. Throw garlic bread in the oven. Fill the house with the smell of dinner. Tantalizing your partner, with their mouths beginning to water. Your partner will not only be thankful, but it sets the mood for you as well.
November 7th - Daylight Savings Time - An extra hour to start your day. But what to do with that extra hour? The night before, offer to change the bedroom clocks. Set the alarm instead, without changing the time.
In the morning when it goes off, the dread of waking up to the awful sound annoys them. They will assume you hit it by accident while changing the time. The annoyance will quickly fade as you rub them softly. Whispering that you wanted that extra hour to wake them up slowly for a change. A way to ease into the day without feeling rushed. An extra hour you both will enjoy.
November 20th - National Absurdity Day - It is exactly what it sounds like, a day to do unusual and absurd things. Of course, I’m sure you can easily come up with an idea, but I have one if it is raining. Literally go out and dance in the rain! Make a big deal about it, play music and usher your partner out into the rain.
As absurd as it sounds, peeling wet clothes off afterwards - can be quite tantalizing! Plus, you both will now be able to say you have danced in the rain together.
November 25th - Thanksgiving - Usually, a crazy hectic day. Whether you are home trying to have the traditional dinner or you go to another’s, it can be stressful.
How do you tantalize your partner on such a crazy day? Depending, of course, where you are, it starts with the little things. A playful pat on the butt, a tender touch of moving their hair from their eyes, a stolen kiss.
The stress suddenly becomes less. Stare them down, raising your eyebrows letting them know you’re available as an appetizer or dessert! Have fun with it! Your ultimate goal is to be able to thank them… for giving. After all, it is Thanksgiving!
There you have it, a couple of tantalizing days. Not that you haven’t thought or done these things before, but National Holidays can give you the reason. Yes, National Holidays can be corny, even crazy, but they also can be fun trying to figure out how to celebrate.
Every day given to us is a reason for celebration. Let these National Holidays inspire you to make the most of each day with your partner!
